"Look, school is all about status. (Duh.)" Not even going to touch this one. Just stupidity. Blatant, consumeristic stupidity. (I don't think that's even a word.) So, here at Towson to get the check from the Bursar's. And now am bored & a little woozy for some reason. Yesterday, however, Janna & i went to Maggie's & then we three went to Carver so Maggie could get a decent picture of her mermaid painting in the alumni show. I had brought my Anastasia soundtrack CD & we listened to it. Yes, while our peers blast rap & indie & "emo," we drive around listening to "Paris Holds the Key (To Your Heart)." Oh la la. (I said we should get out of the car & blast the song, & then a song & dance routine would unfold. Maggie didn't want to, though.) We then went to Plaza & Ten Car Pile-up (very warm in there), & then to Ukazoo; Maggie & Janna were enthused by the thought of free tea ("Why didn't you tell us before; let's go!"). And also Record & Tape Traders real quick. I got things. (ugh) A small Dali book (a Taschen one; they usually cost about $10; this one was $2.48) & a book about the plot to kill the Medici in Renaissance Firenze (about $7?). And also Dark Passion Play, finally (pretty much $10). Then we went back to Maggie's for a while before parting ways. Still have books to buy, which will do probably after class Tuesday...? Also have to try & get an on-campus job so i can hopefully live elsewhere for spring semester. Family driving me absolutely mad. I don't care if my uncles didn't move out for good until they were twenty-nine or -eight, mother, thank you very much. I will be out before then, & i'm not getting married to do it. (Yes, i am aggravated. I'm really sick of this coddling BS.) I would've been able to get all my books today, but i kept not putting enough into checking, & the bank that's established in the Union has its vultures out (maybe that's mean, but i don't care) who are all, "Are you banking with us?" No, genius, did you not just see me at the SECU ATM? And i am perfectly fine with it, too. And can you not see that i am busy & not in the mood for solicitation, & i am not a new student either, thankyouveryverymuchbye. Okaay, in the Democratic corner, we have the possibility of the first non-pasty President; in the Republican corner, we have the possibility of the first vice-president with two X chromosomes. Huh.
"I know exactly how you feel," Schmendrick said eagerly. The unicorn looked at him out of dark, endless eyes, and he smiled nervously and looked at his hands. "It's a rare man who is taken for what he truly is," he said. "There is much misjudgment in the world. Now, I knew you for a unicorn when I first saw you, and I know that I am your friend. Yet you take me for a clown, or a clod, or a betrayer, and so I must be if you see me so. The magic on you is only magic and will vanish as soon as you are free, but the enchantment of error that you put on me I must wear forever in your eyes. We are not always what we seem, and hardly ever what we dream." -The Last Unicorn, pg. 39 (deluxe edition) 1:52 a.m. | August 29, 2008 |
