movies

Sometimes, i get a conversation that goes something like this: "Have you seen ______? You haven't?! You have to watch it!" Now, i'm sure such things are done with the nicest of intentions; nevertheless, they do tend to get somewhat annoying. So now it's my turn to be annoying & tell people to watch something: two old movies that are really priceless. So: watch them, watch them.

Arsenic and Old Lace

Mortimer Brewster has made a career out of railing against marriage, but now he's about to eat his words: he's going to marry Elaine Harper. So it should be easy; all they need to do is grab their things and they're off to Niagra Falls. Except that Mortimer still needs to get Teddy-- Teddy Roosevelt-- into Happydale Sanitorium, and in the meantime he discovers a secret about his two elderly aunts, his killer brother Jonathan and his plastic surgeon, Dr. Einstein, have shown up, and Elaine is this close to calling the whole thing off. With all that going on, does one really need to mention that there are thirteen bodies buried in the cellar?

The Thin Man

Nick and Nora Charles are a married couple visiting New York from California. Nick used to be a detective, that is, until he married and became a "gentleman." But when Clyde Wynant, an old client, disappears, his daughter Dorothy asks Nick for help in finding her father. Things take a turn for the worse when someone shows up dead-- and Clyde Wynant is the prime suspect. It isn't long before Nick is thrown into the case, trying to solve the mystery as the murders continue. Is Wynant really the culprit? Where is he? Or could it be someone else committing the crimes?
